Edward Murphy
May 16th 1951 — Nov 17th 2023 (72 years)
Biography
In May of 1951, Edward Murphy, affectionately known as Eddie, entered the world as the child of Edgar and Gladys Murphy. Amongst a vibrant group of siblings - John, Kathy, Mary, Helen, Bill, Ann, Rita, and Jim - Eddie's early years were woven with the lively tales of a close-knit family in a small town outside of Ottawa. The Murphy name became synonymous with both mischief and unwavering family values in their community. In 1971, Eddie embarked on a lifelong adventure with the love of his life, Nancy, exchanging vows that would span 52 years until this very month. Together, they explored the world, leaving an indelible mark on each other's hearts. Ed and Nancy's union blessed them with two children, Ryan and Shannon. Through the marriages of their children, Ed welcomed Rebeckah and Lucas into the family. The crowning joy of his later years arrived with the birth of his first and only grandchild, Kennedy, who became the cherished apple of his eye. Ed's love and pride for his children knew no bounds. A devoted husband and father, Ed stood as a pillar in every community he touched, a go-to figure for valuable advice. His generosity, though vast, often went unnoticed, a testament to his humble nature when it came to helping others. With Ed's passing, a piece of our collective heart has departed, leaving a void that echoes with the absence of his warmth and wisdom. Memorial is from 2 to 5 PM December 2nd. 2023 at 9 Mary Street, Burk's Falls, Ontario. (Royal Canadian legion). Light snacks and beverages will be served. In lieu of flowers, donations to any local food bank is appreciated.

My sister Eleanor ( deceased 2019) and I were first cousins and while we didn't meet often we loved Ed and had great admiration for him. He was always welcoming and treated us with warmth. My sympathy to Nancy, Shannon, Ryan and families, while his loss will be a struggle I know you will continue to be inspired by the positive memories he created.

What a loss to our tribe Ed Murphy's passing is.
Ed was an epic figure in our extended family- I was always in awe of his abilities. He could knock down a wall in the morning and install half a kitchen by happy hour.
He also seemed like a solid businessman- managing big fancy companies and/or starting them. Ed just seemed to have super human instincts about how to get. shit. done.
Because he married our MacKie cousin very early (basically before I was born), for me they were tied at the hip. I was always very glad to see Ed and Nanci show up at any gathering- they each brought such great energy. Ed loved to sit back and watch the Smith boys try to outdo each other in getting everyone's attention. He would laugh from the corner and egg us on. Ed loved to laugh.

Such an incredible loss to everyone who Ed held dear. It was always heart warming to hear Ed speak of his family as it was so evident how much his family meant to him. We have had the privilege of getting to know Ed, Nancy and their family over the years through several functions here on Eagle Lake. Ed had a gift of creating laughter all around him. If there was a huddle of people laughing it was very likely that you would find Ed in that circle sharing his stories. Eagle Lake will be forever changed to losing such a caring and humble soul. Ed will be greatly missed.
Our deepest sympathies go out to Nancy and the entire family through this very difficult time.
May you all find comfort in your own way....in your own time.

Ed was a wonderful brother. I remember when he brought Nancy home to meet the family. I was just a teenager and so was Nance. ..There were a lot of his siblings for her to meet. There are so many good memories I have of Ed. When I was in grade three, I lost my report card and was so afraid to tell the teacher but my big brother took care of it. He was always there for us. He will be dearly missed.

Oh I have soooo many great memories of Mr. Edward Murphy. Met in grade one at St Trinite in Rockland, together in the same class through to grade five and then from grade seven through to grade ten (when my family moved to Ottawa). We competed for highest mark in Mr. Hyatt’s grade 10 science class; I remember getting 93, the highest score on one of the exams and he looked over at me and said “but I’ll beat you overall when my term mark is included” (which of course he did) …. I remember him walking up to high school in the dead of winter: white pants, navy blue shirt and black coat wide open (of course!) as Mr. Somers earlier mentioned... We would meet again later in life where we agreed to have lunch and I suggested that we invite other former classmates and he said go for it, so I did and entitled the meeting “Lunch with Ed and Me” (using his name as the drawing factor) and it went on for years, former classmates meeting again for the first time in decades (really a beautiful thing!) As of late we were betting on NFL football games, which had become a tradition for us, he winning more than me… We were just setting up a wager last week when all of a sudden there was no reply…. May the “Powers That Be” grant you eternal peace dear Ed….

On behalf of the entire Pace Family we extend our condolences to Ryan and the whole family on the loss of your dear father Ed. In reading the messages above, we took note of Ed's "3 Fs" which are also the hallmark of our family time on Eagle Lake. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you gather to celebrate and remember your fun times with Ed as family and friends.

The Murphy family lived about 5 houses away from our family home in Rockland, as a teenager Eddie had a job delivering groceries to clients, why I remember this is because Eddie always had his jacket untied in the middle of winter no matter the temperature when making his deliveries. He was happy go lucky with always a smile to greet people. Rest in peace Eddie, you are fondly remembered.

When my Father passed away , I was very surprised to get a call from Eddie. We were friends ( as MOST KIDS FROM ROCKLAND WERE --Small Town ), but JOHN was more my age and travelled with us on many ventures in search of " The perfect Girl Friend " . Ed was known to like a scrap or two and I remember a fateful night in upstate New York where he took on a local hustler in a pool hall and we had to make a run for the border, for fear of our lives. Ed was indeed thoughtful and kind. He will be missed by many. Rest in Peace, my friend. Garnie

One of my favourite memories of Ed was the day Bill introduced me to him, Nanc and their 4 year old Ryan. Bill was very late for his duties as best man for Nanc’s brother’s wedding. He ran up with me in tow and said to them “Can you take care of her?” To which Ed replied, “Does Her have a name?” It was with impish joy he would refer to me as Her for quite some time thereafter.
Ed and Nancy immediately made me feel like family. My love to Nancy, Ryan and Shannon. Ed there will never be a par 3 that I won’t be thinking of you and your joy of taking my money!

I’m just a few years older than Ed. So many memories come to mind. There was the time he broke his arm. I dared him to jump from the fence to the tree. I could do it and I was a girl. My favourite was when I broke my leg. As it turned out, the other leg had a small fracture also. I had a full cast and a half cast with a little knob. Ed would get me up on my crutches. I would would take one step and start falling backwards. He always caught me … till I got to the top of the staircase so I could shimmy down. We laughed so much.
You always found time to be there for all of us. I will miss you, Eddie.

I remember when Ed and Nancy first bought the cottage at Eagle Lake, construction improvements were the name of the game. One involved removing an old chimney. Handyman Ed and Nancy’s dad Dave were working from the outside and had us ‘girls’ holding the bracing 2x4s inside, while the work was being done. I remember Ed clearly saying if you feel any rumbling just RUN! So much fun, laughter and mischief.
Will miss you big brother. I cherish our time together and the wonderful memories.

We had the pleasure of becoming friends with Ed and Nancy for many years in Arcadia Florida. We were welcomed into to their Florida family, including Ed's brothers Mike and Bill and their wives, as well as other in the extended family and friends. Ed was always our "go to guy" in our Monday night Trivia group. Friday nights were extended family get together dinners, often at Ed and Nancy's. Our prayers and thoughts to Nancy and family .

Wonderful memory for me was a February 2003 ski trip to Vancouver. Ed & I skied Whistler for a few days then went to a Canucks / Flames NHL game at GM Place. Yes, the venues may sound grand, but the best part was spending some one-to-one time together. Just chatting about everything and nothing at all. Being brothers and friends for a few days as life then, as for many of us can be very busy. With me, Ed has always had such a knack of simply slowing down the pace of everything in life, and savoring the moment. Thanks Ed!
